Objectives

SERF II is part of the 5th Framework Programme of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM). Its aim is to investigate the socio-economic aspects of nuclear fusion in Europe. Austria takes part in the fusion-specific work programme within the macro-task "Trust and licensing procedures for large fusion devices". The Austrian research team is led by the Institute for Risk Research at the University in Vienna.

The ICCR is part of the Austrian research team with the aim to evaluate expert opinions in the area of nuclear fusion, and more specifically with regard to licensing procedures for fusion reactors, the structure of official regulation as well as the future of nuclear fusion. For this purpure, the ICCR conducts 10 expert interviews with experts coming from the field of science and research (general physics, theoretical physics, and experimental physics) and industrial partners (i.e. companies which supply materials for fusion experiments). There will be a final report about the experts' opions by the ICCR which will then be part of the Austrian research report.
