The four specific objectives of REGIONET are: the ‘cross-fertilisation’ of sustainability research and the establishment of regional partnerships; the (improved) integration of sustainability issues in the regional development plans put forward to the EU structural funds; an understanding of the relationship between the implementation of regional sustainable development and issues of regional and multi-level governance; and an integrated framework for evaluating regional sustainable development at European, the national and the regional levels. These objectives the project will achieve through the organisation of four workshops at which papers prepared and circulated in advance (from network partners and external experts) will be presented and discussed. Subsequently the papers will be published and thus be widely disseminated. Three of the workshops will be medium in size (40 participants), the fourth and last one will be larger (100 participants).
