Objectives This was an exploratory study into the character of cultural initiatives of ethnic migrant communities in Austria, laying particular emphasis on the delineation of the role of art - and specifically music and theatre - for intercultural learning processes. Particular attention was paid to the influence of integration policies on the emergence and profile of ethnic cultural initiatives as well as to the discourse of multiculturalism that informs the implementation of cultural policies with regards ethnic minorities.
