Acronym MARKET Title The Diffusion of Cleaner Technologies in Small- and Medium-Size Enterprises Co-ordinator ICCR, Austria Client Austrian Federal Ministry for Environment, Youth and Family Contract Number GZ 01.2776/1-I/7/93 Duration June 1993 - December 1994 Person Responsible Ronald J. Pohoryles Objectives The development and diffusion of cleaner technologies is notoriously known for being problematic. This study represents an attempt to investigate the reasons behind the bottlenecks in the process of diffusion of cleaner technologies, which as earlier studies have shown, affect most particularly the small- and medium-size enterprises. The study focuses on four industrial sectors: the chemical, paper, metal (construction) and electrical engineering industries. It involves a survey of some 2,000 enterprises as well as a survey of the views of consultants and engineers who operate in the service sector and who are the main agents of information and knowledge diffusion.
