Project JEWETHNIC

Acronym JEWETHNIC
Title Jewish Identity as a Paradigm for 'Multiple Ethnicity' and Multicultural Integration
Co-ordinator The Interdisciplinary Centre for Comparative Research in the Social Sciences (ICCR), Vienna, Austria
Client FWF, Austria
Contract Number P8338-SOZ
Duration March 1991 - March 1993
Person Responsible Ronald J. Pohoryles
Objectives The main concern of this project was the analysis of the interaction between ethnic (and national) identity and other social roles. Such an analysis provides the grounds for accounting for the conditions under which particular roles predominate over others. Austrian Jews were selected as a case study. The history and historical experience of Jews provide an exemplary of multiple identity with respect to both the intrinsic formation of identity and changing circumstances.
