Objectives The project will analyse to what extent current institutional constellations and socio-political practices provide an effective system of political constestations within a broader political structure with a genuinely European focus. On the conceptual level, EUROPUB will provide a functioning concept of a European public space that is in line with both the institutional policy realities of the EU and the state-of-the-art thinking in this area. On the substantive level, the project will provide and in-depth analysis of the institutional opportunity structures for contesting policy-making at the European level in selected policy areas. On the empirical/policy-relevant level, EUROPUB will devise and test a set of indicators that will monitor the development of a European public space. These indicators will allow the establishment of an observatory for European democracy.
