The conference scientific and organising committees have now established the programme for the 3rd MoniQA International Conference which is entitled “Food Safety and Consumer Protection” and will take place from September 27-29 2011 in Varna Bulgaria. Sessions focus on risk, understanding and choice, food safety, food security and climate change, socio-economic impact of food safety regulations, allergens, emerging issues in food (such as nanotechnology) chemical contaminants and mycotoxins, and food safety education curricula around the globe; all under the umbrella of the impact on consumers. The conference will also introduce the new MoniQA Association, a non-profit-distributing organisation dedicated to collaborative research promoting a more secure and safer food supply, which will succeed the EU-funded Network of Excellence.
The conference features a wide array of speakers from food safety researchers, socio-economists, regulators, and representatives from food industry and retail as well as consumer representatives from around the globe. The event follows up on earlier, highly-successful MoniQA Conferences in Rome (2008) and Krakow (2010) with inter- and cross-disciplinary activities bridging the concerns of citizens, food science and the European economy.
The conference includes table-top sessions with hands-on demonstration showcasing MoniQA activities and results. A poster session will highlight selected scientific research, and EU-funded projects, such as CHANCE and FoodRisc, will also contribute.
The social programme includes a welcome reception and a conference dinner. A site visit to a vinery, including sightseeing, is optional on the day after the conference (Friday September 30, not included in conference fee).
