Environemnt Statements

Environment Statement 1

Total and transport energy consumption continues to grow.
Assuming that

  1. the share of renewable energy remains low,

  2. there are no major breakthroughs regarding transport technology

  3. the motorisation rate remains stable at a high level or continues to grow in the EU15.

we can expect an increase of environmental pollution (especially CO2 emissions) due to transport.

Environment Statement 2

NOx  emissions have decreased significantly between 1990 and 2000 as a result of the introduction of better technologies in fuel combustion and the improvement of chemical industrial processes.
Assuming current mobility trends, any further decrease of NOx emissions will only come about through the introduction of either better catalytic converters or through a growth in the share of alternative fuels

1. Do you agree that a further decrease of Nox emissions is only possible through further technological improvements? (%)

Environment Statement 3

In 2002 road fuel was between 5 to 10 per cent cheaper in the EU15 than in 1980.
Assuming this trend continues and there is no major technological breakthrough regarding transport technologies,  we can expect an increase of the motorisation rate and an increase of road passenger transport.
At the same time energy prices will have little impact on transport costs, thus contributing to an increase of the share of the road also in freight transport.
The only way to avoid the latter would be through the increase of other transport cost components
