UK Foresight Programme
The UK Foresight programme brings together experts from business, government, science and other areas, to predict the future, and to assess the needs to guarantee long-term competitive advantage and enhanced quality of life for all.

The programme was launched in 1993 subsequent to the Government White Paper on science, engineering and technology, Realising our Potential. It is based on a panel structure, each panel looking at a particular area. The aim is, to identify the challenges and opportunities that the country is likely to face over the next ten to twenty years in that area.

Foresight panels have been organised in the following areas: Ageing Population; Crime Prevention; Manufacturing 2020; Built Environment & Transport; Chemicals; Defence, Aerospace & Systems; Energy & Natural Environment.

New Zealand's Foresight Programme
The Foresight Project is an initiative led by the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology of New Zealand. Its task is to foster strategic thinking across diverse sectors, groups and communities within New Zealand. The aim is to reach increased knowledge of the needs and opportunities for the future, especially in the fields of research, science and technology, as well as guiding policy setting in those fields in a second step.

Denmark Foresight Network
The Denmark Foresight Network ITS incorporates a number of professionals from primarily academic, research and governmental institutions in Denmark, which deal with technological development and change. The aim of the Network and its participants is to identify how technologies and its changes should best be addressed in the context of societal, economic, industry or environmental issues. The Network provides a discussion forum on the question of how the study and analysis of technology may best be approached.

The focused research unites at IST are: The Unit of Environmental Studies; The Unit of Technology and Working Life, Studies of Developing Countries, The Unit of Technology Analysis and Assessment, Technology and Economics, Sociology of Technology and Engineering Knowledge.

Foresight in Japan - National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP)
NISTEP was founded in 1988 as an affiliated research institute under the Science & Technology Agency. Its task is to conduct theoretical and empirical research on matters that would be the basis for developing Science & Technology policy. Besides this task of planning the government S&T policies by promoting S&T policy research with a comprehensive and long-term perspective, NISTEP also provides private companies with research results to assist them in formulating strategies for Research and Development.

Foresight in Germany - Fraunhofer Institute for Science and Technology. (ISI)
ISI specialises in the analysis of technological developments, their market potentials and their impacts on economy, government and society.

The research focus is mainly in the fields of: Energy; Environment; Production; Communication; Biotechnology; Regional Research; Innovation Policy.

Foresight in the United States (1) - Science and Technology Policy Institute (S&T PI)
S&T PI is a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) that provides analytic support to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and has operated since 1992. The overall aim of S&T PI is to help improve public policy by guiding decisions through objective analysis. In performing these analysis the S&T PI cooperates widely with representatives from private industry, institutions of higher education and non profit institutions.

S&T PI works on a wide range of issues, including: U.S. R&D Portfolio and International Cooperation; Space and Transportation; Critical Infrastructure and Information Technology; Health, the Environment and Public Safety.

Foresight in the United States (2) – The Institute for the Future (IFTF)
IFTF is an independent research firm, specialising in long-term forecasting, alternative futures scenarios and. impact of new products and next-generation technologies on society and business. The IFTF helps their clients plan their future by foretelling critical technological, demographic, and business trends.

The research areas at IFTF are: Emerging Technologies; Strategic Planning; Health and Health Care.  

Foresight in The Netherlands – Advisory Council for Science and Technology Policy (AWT)
The AWT was launched in 1990 as an advisory body to the Dutch government on science and technology policy. Its members origin from different sectors like science, economy etc. . Their task is primarily to advise the Government on the science and technology policy and to carry out or commission foresight studies in these fields.

Foresight in Ireland - Forfás
Forfás – the National Policy and Advisory Board for Enterprise, Trade, Science, Technology and Innovation in Ireland – consults the Minister for, and Department of, Enterprise, Trade & Employment in generating policies for the development of enterprise, science and technology, and promotes the industrial development agencies, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland (Investment and Development Agency Ireland) . Among others it manages a foresight network.
