Vice-Director The Interdisciplinary Centre for Comparative Research in the Social Sciences (ICCR)
Fields of activity:
- Research in social science (sociology, political science, socio-economics, ethics of research)
- Human resources management (recruitment, training, performance assessment)
- Audit (organizational audit and financial audit).
Description of duties and main achievements:
My duties combined own research (see publications) and research management with a particular focus on European comparative and collaborative projects. During my time as vice-director of ICCR, the institute accrued several European projects and gained a reputation as a flagship private institute in the European research area in the field of social sciences and European public policy analysis. As most of the projects I managed and worked on were international, this brought me in constant contact with scholars and professionals around the world. In parallel, I was editor of the institute’s journal ‘Innovation; The European Journal of Social Science Research’, which is published by Taylor and Francis of the Informa Group. At the same time I was in charge of the institute’s financial and organizational management which included fund-raising through proposal writing, recruitment, training and supervision of personnel as well as the preparation of the institute’s financial statements and balance sheets.

Fields of activity:
Academic research in sociology
Description of duties and main achievements:
During my time as senior researcher at the ICCR I launched the ‘European Community Household Panel’ (ECHP) for Austria on behalf of Eurostat. The survey, for which I was the scientific coordinator, targeted 3,000 households and 7,000 individuals around Austria. In parallel, I got engaged in the editing of the institute’s journal ‘Innovation; The European Journal of Social Science Research’. It was then that the journal also was successful in getting a UK-based publisher.09/1990-04/1991

Academic research in gender studies and assistant to institute’s director
09/1988-06/1990

I worked as part-time academic tutor for undergraduate students of sociology and social psychology. My duties comprised discussing with them the curriculum material, correcting their essays and preparing them for the exams.

During the past fifteen years I have coordinated more than ten European projects on my own and another ten in collaboration. Succesful project coordination requires social and technical skills and a comprehensive generalist knowledge across various disciplines. In this function I have supervised more than thirty young scholars and supported their research.
